Crop Walk results in $3,470 donation to help the hungry

Life (Lehighton Interfaith Fellowship) at their recent meeting were happy to present the results of the CROP Hunger Walk held on Oct. 11 at the Lehighton Canal Park at Weissport. The total raised $3,470 plus a grant of $500 from the Carbon County Chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans making the total $3,970.

CROP Hunger Walks help fight hunger and poverty around the world through Church World Service's relief and development programs. Twenty-five percent of the funds raised will come back to Trinity Pantry. The Trinity Pantry is located at Trinity Lutheran Church, 175 S. Third St., Lehighton, and serves families in the area of the Lehighton School District. The pantry is also part of Shepherd House, Inc., Carbon County Food Distribution System.

There were 121 walkers representing the following churches: All Saints Episcopal, Ben Salem United Church of Christ, Dinkey Memorial Lutheran, First Presbyterian, Grace/Zion Lutheran, St. John's Lutheran, St. Matthew's Lutheran, St. Paul's Lutheran, Weissport; Ss. Peter and Paul Roman Catholic church, Trinity evangelical Church and Zion United Church of Christ.

Life received donations of bottled water from Giant Food Stores and apples from Trinity Lutheran Church for walkers.
