Santa helps kick off Tamaqua's Spirit of Christmas celebration
Santa and Mrs. Claus arrived in Tamaqua last night to help illuminate Depot Square Park and continue the four-day Spirit of Christmas celebration that will last until Sunday evening's Tree Lighting Ceremony in the park.
The park is the setting for the annual light and music show that will continue to play throughout the holiday season.
After lighting up the park, Santa and Mrs. Claus greeted children at the Tamaqua Chamber of Commerce offices. Children had the opportunity to tell Santa what they hope he will bring them for Christmas and get their photos taken with him. They also received candy and a holiday ornament.
The chamber office is also the home of the Community Giving Decorated Tree Festival. Twelve community organizations have decorated trees on display in the office.
Visitors can vote for their favorite tree and the winner of the festival will be announced on Sunday evening during the tree lighting ceremony.
The decorated trees will then be donated to families who are in need of holiday cheer this season.
The Clauses remained in Tamaqua overnight and will be greeting children for breakfast at the Salvation Army Saturday morning.
