Peters Elementary School students take the oath of loyalty
TERRY AHNER/TIMES NEWS Pupils at Peters Elementary successfully recite the Pledge of Allegiance during a program Tuesday at the school.
They placed their right hands over their heart as an oath of loyalty to their country.
The next thing they knew, kindergarten pupils at Peters Elementary School soon found themselves in like flint.
After a successful rendition of the Pledge of Allegiance, the pupils approached a table stationed inside the school gymnasium, where they were greeted by Karen Bandzi, president of the Walnutport Ladies Auxiliary, VFW Post 7215, R.W. Fritzinger Post, Walnutport, as well as Mary Beth Dougherty, a staff assistant of state Sen. David Argall (R-Schuylkill).
At that time, each pupil received an American Flag courtesy of Argall, a citation from the Walnutport VFW, a VFW Ladies Auxiliary pencil, and a coloring book donated by the late state Sen. James Rhoades.
The program began with a brief movie on the Pledge of Allegiance, which Bandzi said was shown to teach the pupils of its history.
"They're young," Bandzi said. "Some kids don't know where to place their hands."
Kindergarten pupil Rozalynn Silket brimmed with joy at the conclusion of the program.
"It's fun to have the Pledge of Allegiance," Rozalynn said. "God is in it."
Bandzi said the program marked the fourth year for the event.
