2 charged after Lehigh Twp. crashes

Two people were charged after Lehigh Township Police responded to crashes Thursday night.

The first was a two-vehicle crash that occurred at 8:30 p.m. on Route 873, on the bridge at Route 248.

Police said a silver Chevrolet Traverse driven by Kelly Joseph Washburn, 48, of Heritage Lane, Walnutport, was traveling west across the bridge and crossed over into the oncoming lane.

Washburn collided head on with a black Kia Sephia, driven by Eric Hardy, 26, of Vanman Lane, Lehighton.

Both drivers sustained minor injuries.

Washburn was charged on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.

He was arraigned before Judge Robert Hawke, who set bail at $10,000.

Washburn was remanded to Northampton County Prison.

The second crash occurred at 10:30 p.m. on Walnut Drive and Dogwood Road.

Police said a blue Dodge Caliber, driven by Erin Stevens, 24, of Main Street, Northampton, left the roadway and went down an embankment and collided with trees.

Stevens was uninjured, but had to be extricated by Lehigh Township Fire personnel.

An open beer bottle was in the cup holder.

When police interviewed Stevens, they said she exhibited signs of impairment.

As a result, Stevens will be charged for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.
