18-year-old assaults Camp Adams employees

An 18-year-old resident of Clifton Heights, who was ordered by the court to serve a sentence at the Youth Services Agency (Camp Adams) in Penn Forest Township, was jailed after he resisted arrest, assaulted staff members and threatened to harm them at 11:40 a.m. June 4.

State police at the Lehighton barracks said he was charged with aggravated assault. Following arraignment before Magisterial District Judge Eric Schrantz, Jim Thorpe, he was committed to the Carbon County Correctional Facility, Nesquehoning, in lieu of $20,000 straight bail.

Police said they were summoned to the facility to investigate a report of the defendant having assaulted staff and, upon arrival, observed him being detained by staff members. Police said verbal commands were given to him in an attempt to detain him, after which time he began to resist arrest.

Police said he tried to bite a trooper and made threats to everyone in the area.

The officer’s investigation revealed the suspect punched a woman, bit another woman on the shoulder and threatened to harm all four agency employees.

The victims include a 37-year-old woman and a 52-year-old woman, both from Jim Thorpe, a 24-year-old man from Wilkes-Barre and a 32-year-old woman from Albrightsville.
