Road conditions blamed for crash

Icy road conditions were blamed for a one-vehicle crash that occurred at 4:57 p.m. Wednesday along Route 61 in West Brunswick Township, Schuylkill County.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said Stephen C. Domaratzky, 18, of Pottsville, was driving a 1999 Dodge Ram truck northbound when it began to slide on the ice and went off the road. The truck hit a drainage culvert and came to rest.

Domaratzky was not injured but the truck had to be towed from the scene.

Convenience store burglary investigated

State police at Schuylkill Haven are investigating a burglary at a Schuylkill County convenience store.

Troopers said the break-in occurred at the Eagle Mart, located at 511 Route 61 South in North Manheim Township. Criminals used force to gain entry through a rear door. Once inside, they removed money, lottery tickets and cigarettes. They also damaged an ATM and caused damage to multiple doors.

The incident occurred sometime between 7:30 p.m. Wednesday and 4:45 a.m. Thursday. Anyone with information concerning this incident is asked to call troopers at 570-739-1330.

School bus rear-ended in Schuylkill

A school bus was rear-ended on Thursday after it had stopped to pick up students.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said the crash occurred at 9:12 a.m. along Second Mountain Road in North Manheim Township, Schuylkill County.

Troopers said Lucille E. Brinich, 55, of Pine Grove, was operating a 2010 Thomas Built school board eastbound and had stopped to pick up students in the area of 168 Second Mountain Road. Megan L. Kokitus, 41, of Pottsville, driving a 2012 Honda Civic, was behind the bus and was unable to stop and struck the rear of the bus.

Woman throws microwave

A Summit Hill woman faces charges after hurling a microwave oven at her significant other during an argument, police say.

Borough police charged Ashley Orach, 28, of 6 E. Ludlow St., with harassment, disorderly conduct, and criminal mischief after she and Ronald Hagenbuch, 41, of 358 W. Kline Avenue, Lansford, took their appliance-chucking domestic dispute into the street in front of Orach's house at about 7 a.m. Dec. 5.

Hagenbuch was charged with disorderly conduct and harassment.

Deer blamed for Schuylkill crash

A deer was blamed for causing a one-vehicle crash in Schuylkill County on Wednesday.

State police at Frackville said Sheila M. Noll, 48, of Orwigsburg, was driving a 2002 Buick Rendezvous westbound on Red Dale Road in West Brunswick Township at 5:54 p.m. when two deer entered the road in front of her. She attempted to avoid the animals and lost control.

The Buick went onto the berm and struck two mailboxes on the south side, then hit a ditch, where it came to rest. Noll was not injured but the Buick had to be towed from the scene.

Two cited in domestic dispute

Both sides in a domestic dispute have been cited.

State police at Lehighton said Shelly Darlene Ackerman, 40, and Joshua Richard Ackerman, 17, both of 140 Stoney Creek Road, in Penn Forest Township, engaged in a verbal argument that turned physical with both shoving and striking each other, resulting in minor injuries to both of them. The incident occurred at 6:12 p.m. on Wednesday.

Both were cited for harassment, troopers said.

Arrest made in attempted break-in

State police at Lehighton reported the arrest of a person for an attempted burglary.

Troopers said at 8:20 p.m. Wednesday a 41-year-old female, who resides in the 100 block of Karaman Lane, Polk Township, Monroe County, reported that Kaitlyn Marie Karaman, 23, no address given, attempted to break into her home.

Karaman was arrested and charged with attempted burglary. Troopers said she was arraigned before a district judge on the charge.

Theft incident being investigated

State police at Lehighton are investigating a theft incident.

Troopers said a resident in the of 1300 block of Meixsell Valley Road, Saylorsburg, Monroe County, reported someone siphoned fuel from a tractor and two snowmobiles on his property. The victim said the suspect fled in a black, 1990s model Dodge Ram pickup. The incident was reported at 4:53 p.m. on Monday.

Teen escapes from youth camp

State police at Lehighton said a client at a young camp in Carbon County has escaped.

Troopers said Dimear Caraballo, 18, of Sellersville, Montgomery County, fled the Camp Adams facility in Penn Forest Township on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. His whereabouts are unknown.

Large amount of cash taken

A large amount of cash was reported taken in a Schuylkill County incident.

State police at Frackville said the incident occurred on Tuesday at a residence along Morea Road, in West Mahanoy Township. Troopers said two males, pretending to work for the water company, entered the residence at 4:30 p.m. to check for contaminated water. Once inside, one of the suspects distracted the homeowners while the other stole $8,000.
