Tamaqua-NSC

Tamaqua posted a 9-5 victory over Northern Schuylkill County in a Schuylkill-Berks Legion game on Thursday.

Tamaqua used a four-run seventh inning to break open a tie game. Chris Pilla's home run was key the blow.

In addition to Pilla's homer, Tamaqua (5-1) got an RBI double from Ty Rother in the first and an RBI single from Jay Pilla in the fourth.

The Tamaqua Legion team picked up a win and the Panther Valley Black Diamonds also wound up victorious in local baseball action.

Chris Pilla hit a grand slam in the fourth inning to lead Tamaqua over Southern Area by a 9-3 score.

Tyler Milot went the distance, striking out seven, walking one and allowing five hits on 103 pitches. Three of the hits were in the first inning when Southern scored its three runs.

Tamaqua won a pair of recent games in Schuylkill Legion play to highlight youth baseball action.

Chris Pilla had three hits and scored three runs Thursday to help Tamaqua gain an 11-6 victory over Valley View.

Mike Streisel collected two hits, one of them a homer, and knocks in three runs for the winners, who score in every inning.

The Blue Sox also receive a hit, an RBI and three runs scored from Jay Pilla while Derek Linkhorst gains the pitching win.

Minersville rallied to post a Schuylkill Legion win over host Tamaqua.

Dave King hit a home run, knocked in four runs and pitched a complete game to help lead Minersville to a 16-8 comeback win over Tamaqua in Schuylkill Legion action.

The winners rallied from deficits of 4-1 and 6-4, scoring five runs in each the fourth and sixth innings.

King added a double and two runs scored while Ryan King had two hits and a pair of runs.

The Panther Valley Black Diamonds opened up with a pair of wins in the Keystone Senior Babe Ruth League.

In the Carbon Babe Ruth League, the Franklin Township Patriots are off to a 3-0 start.

Bushkill Patriots-Franklin Hurricanes

Jeff Noyes hurled a complete game two-hit shutout with eight strikeouts as the Hurricanes blanked the Patriots 12-0 in six innings.

Dane Ciaverella was two-for-two with a double and two RBIs for the winners. Nolan Saurzopf went one-for-two with a double and took the loss for Bushkill.

The Jim Thorpe Royals won a pair of games in recent action.

Eric Mason fired a two-hitter and struck out five to lead the Jim Thorpe Royals to a 10-0 victory over the Towamensing Orioles.

The Royals were led offensively by Mike Cataldo who had three hits and three RBIs. Justin Kaminski added two hits, two RBIs an two runs scored.

St. Jerome's wins Dist. CYO track title St. Jerome Regional School, Tamaqua, won the championship of the District 5 Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) track and field meet held at Marian Catholic High School, Hometown. The Lions will now compete in the Diocesan track and field championships today (Saturday) at Notre Dame High School in Green Pond, near Easton. Team members include, row one, from left, Carly Trovinger, Emily Pilla, Abby Pilla, Scott Zelonis, Matt Karnish, Dylan Baddick and Ryan Buchman. Justin Kamisnki tossed a two-hitter to help lead the Jim Thorpe Royals to a 10-1 Carbon County Babe Ruth League victory over the Towamensing Orioles.

Kaminiski walked four and struck out nine in gaining the pitching win.

Damian Richards had a double, triple and scored two runs for the Royals. Mike Cataldo added a double and run scored, while Eric Mason and Dave Everitt each had a hit and run scored.

For the Orioles, Nick Frey suffered the loss but had both his team's hits.

The Keystone Senior Babe Ruth League recently kicked off its 14th season.

The 2009 season ended with a Franklin Township showdown between its two teams as the National Division champions Hurricanes defeated the American Division champions Red Sox, who were the two-time defending league champs.

The Hurricanes continued a string of three straight seasons that a team from Franklin Township has won the Keystone Senior Babe Ruth League Championship.

The Pleasant Valley Pirates played its first game as a member of the Keystone Senior Babe Ruth League and came away with a win over Upper Mount Bethel.

The Pleasant Valley Pirates recently won its first game as a member of the Keystone Senior Babe Ruth League by defeating the Upper Mount Bethel Muckdogs, 11-6.

The winners used a six-run fifth inning to pull away for the victory.

Justin Murray and Frankie Lewoc both had two hits and knocked in a pair of runs for the Pirates.
