Former Coaldale mayor's trial opened today

The trial for ex-mayor Richard Corkery, accused of 27 counts of child pornography, began today.

Witnesses included William Lakatas, manager for the radio station in which Corkery worked, testified that the computer's history file listed porn sites.

Lakatas spoke to Corkery soon after, who claimed he typed the name of a school, and the search engine redirected him to a porn site.

Lakatas then deleted the computer's history so that no one else at the radio station would accidentally access a pornography website.

Debra Papanek, office manager of the radio station, testified that Corkery asked her for help to stop distasteful pop-ups on the computer.

Nesquehoning Police Chief Sean Smith read aloud the anonymous letter asking authorities to address Corkery's use of the WMGH computer.

FBI agent John Bates was also present for the interview in Corkery's home in 2011. Inside were photos of boys who Corkery says he coached.
