Penn Forest project raisesconcerns

Dear Editor:

Has anyone from the Pennsylvania Game Commission contacted Times News regarding the clear cutting of four acres in State Game Land 141 along Behrens Road in Penn Forest Township? Many residents voiced their concerns to the Bear Creek Lakes Civic Association at the May 17 BCLCA board of directors meeting.Rep. Doyle Heffley also attended the meeting and answered questions. Unfortunately, the game commission is an independent agency and doesn't answer to anyone when it comes to developing state game lands. It would be nice to see a public notice or something on the commission's website detailing the project plan. So far requests for information have not been successful in obtaining anything in writing.Word of mouth indicates the Beltzville facility equipment will be moved to the Behrens Road site to allow easy access to the new turnpike interchange on Route 903.I can think of a few more convenient locations on that wouldn't affect wild turkey habitat and increase the stormwater runoff into lakes and streams that are considered exceptional value quality.Robert SkiffingtonPenn Forest Township
