Carbon Conservation District is hosting its 39th annual poster contest.

The contest is open to students and provides them with a way to convey their ideas on soil, water and related natural resource issues through art.This year's theme is "Dig deeper - Mysteries in the soil."Entries must be created using the National Association of Conservation Districts' rules, which can be found at

http://www.nacdnet.org/education/contests/poster/2014.The student's entry must use the theme on the poster to be eligible for the national poster contest. No other title will be accepted.Poster categories are kindergarten-first grade; second-third grades; fourth through sixth grades; seventh through ninth grades; and 10th through 12th grades. Students in public, private and home school are eligible for inclusion in the contest.The posters must be flat and between the sizes of 8.5-inches by 11-inches and 22-inches by 28-inches. There are no restrictions on the type of art materials that can be used.The artist's name must not appear on the front of the entry; but the back of the poster must be labeled with the proper entry form, which can be obtained through Conservation District. Posters that do not follow the rules will be disqualified.Posters will be evaluated for its conservation message, visual effectiveness, originality and universal appeal.To submit a poster, mail it to Carbon Conservation District, Audrey Wargo, district secretary, 5664 Interchange Road, Lehighton, PA 18235.Entries will be accepted until 4 p.m., Thursday, April 10. Once they are submitted, posters become the property of the conservation district.Winners will be notified and will receive a special award during a presentation on May 22, at the Carbon County Courthouse.
