Danielsville man killed during five-vehicle crash

A Danielsville man was killed when the garbage truck he was driving plowed into other vehicles in a construction zone on Interstate 80 in Columbia County.

The accident happened at 1:11 p.m. Monday.State Police at Bloomsburg said William J. Boettinger, 60, was traveling westbound on Interstate 80, driving in the right-hand travel lane.Police said as Boettingger encountered traffic he couldn't stop his truck, a 2012 Freightliner and he struck another truck in the rear. This vehicle, a 2014 Kenworth, was being driven by Michael P. Catchings, 35, of Crystal Springs, Mississippi.The impact caused Boettinger's truck to travel onto the right hand berm where it struck a third truck, driven by William C. Wright of Downingtown.Wright's truck overturned onto the passenger side.After being struck by the Boettinger vehicle, Catchings truck collided with two other vehicles, a GMC driven by Brittany A. Driscoll, 21, of Pittston, and a Toyota driven by Platini E. Michael, 28, of Philadelphia.State police said an autopsy on Boettinger is scheduled later today.
