Northwestern only mustered 16 points in the first half of Thursday night's Colonial League girls' basketball game against Notre Dame Green Pond.

The Lady Tigers (9-1 CL, 15-1 overall) surpassed that amount and dropped 20 points in the fourth quarter alone on their way to a 44-41 come-from-behind victory against the Lady Crusaders."That was huge," said Northwestern head coach Chris Deutsch. "We were struggling the whole night and we were able to come out and make four big three's in the fourth quarter."In addition to scoring 28 total points in the second half, the Lady Tigers' defense held the Lady Crusaders (7-7; 6-4) to only 14 points in the third and fourth quarters.However, the script was completely flipped in the first half.The scoreboard read all zeroes in the first until junior Gabby Altmire added two points for Notre Dame with a breakaway lay-up off a steal with 6:15 left in the first. Altmire led all scorers with 21 points, 16 of which came in the first half.Turnovers plagued both squads for the remainder of the quarter as they coughed-up the ball a combined 11 times. Despite the sloppy play, Notre Dame led Northwestern 12-10 after the first.The Lady Crusaders furthered their lead some more by holding the Lady Tigers to only six points in the second frame as Northwestern went 1-7 from the field, the lone bucket coming from senior Sabrina Mertz, who due to foul trouble was limited to three points and three rebounds."They were making us shoot outside shots," Deutsch said of his team's offensive output in the first half. "They were packing the zone which made us shoot. I didn't have any issue with our shot selection though. We don't have a 6'1" girl down low. Trista (Cunningham) did a great job, but they kept collapsing on her."Despite not having the size, Cunningham held her own posting 13 points and 12 rebounds.Sophomore Megan Landrigan, who contributed 10 points, seven of which came in the fourth quarter, discussed what was being said at halftime, as the Lady Tigers trailed 27-16."We said that Notre Dame really needed this win for league playoffs. He (Deutsch) was really harping on us just coming back.
