Salary board approves staff changes

The Schuylkill County Commissioners and Salary Board approved personnel changes in various departments on Wednesday.

Newly elected District Attorney Christine Holman made changes in her office. She announced the resignations of Thomas Campion, Norwegian Township, who served as first assistant under former District Attorney Karen Byrnes Noon, Douglas Taglieri, Minersville, a full-time assistant district attorney, and Michael O'Pake, a part-time assistant district attorney, resigned.O'Pake was hired as a part-time public defender at salary of $31,818.27. He fills the vacancy caused by the resignation of Christopher Hobbs, Pottsville, who assumed the position of part time assistant county solicitor at $30,536.95, filling the vacancy left by Holman after she was elected district attorney.Holman appointed Maria Casey, Minersville, as her first assistant and the salary board fixed her salary at $64,900 per year; appointed full time assistants were John Fegley, Ruscombmanor Township, Berks County, $44,356 per year; and Robert Lipin, West Brunswick Township, $47,057 per year; appointed as part time assistants were Gary Marchalk, Ryan Township; William Burke, Port Carbon; and James Flagella, Orwigsburg, each at $25,575 per year.Dolores Malec, North Manheim Township, who held the rank of Detective II under Noon was elevated to chief county detective at $25.47 per hour; Dennis Clark, Eldred Township, who served as the chief county detective under Noon, stepped down to Detective II at $26.900 per hour; Debra Smith, New Philadelphia, who was an assistant under Noon and was paid under a grant from the state to handle abused women cases, will remain as an assistant at salary of $25,575 per year; and Linda Dillman, Frackville, was appointed executive secretary at $33,271 per year.The County Prison board announced the retirement of John Wowak, Pottsville, as a correctional officer.Soil Conservation District announced the resignation of Drew Kline, Hegins, as per diem rental clerk.Human Services Department announced the resignation of Tammy Reed, Pottsville, as clerk typist.In other action at Rest Haven Home it was announced the appointment of Jessica Troutman, Ashland, as a per diem licensed practical nurse at salary of $18 per hour; and Ashley Harman, Pottsville, part-time laundry aide at $9 per hour; transfer of Rose Marie Smallwood, Girardville, from part-time to full-time licensed practical nurse at $15.99 per hour; and Silvia Starr, Pottsville, from full-time nurse's aide to full-time housekeeper at $14.92 per hour; and the retirement of Mary Berryman, Oley, as full-time director of nursing.The salary board eliminated the position of first assistant director of nursing and created the position of full-time director of clinical reimbursement, coordinator of restored nursing and medical records, with salary to be in the matrix six pay range. The board created the position of per diem licensed practical nurse and set the salary at $18 per hour.
