A traffic collision occurred after a Schuylkill County man, suspected of being under the influence of alcoholic beverages, lost control of his car.

Schuylkill Haven police said that Robert Darcangelo, 66, of Orwigsburg, was traveling south on Route 61 in North Manheim Township around 1:45 p.m. Jan. 9. For an unknown reason, Darcangelo lost control of his 2003 Toyota Corolla and traveled onto the west berm of Route 61.Shortly after entering the berm, the vehicle struck a guide post for a PPL utility pole with the front end, as the driver side rear impacted a guide wire for the utility pole.The impact caused the guide post to sheer off, and upon impact, the guide post fell over and impacted a 2008 Buick Lucerne, which was parked at 1464 S. Route 61.The Toyota Corolla was towed from the scene by Detweiler's Towing, and sustained functional damage. The Buick Lucerne sustained minor damage.Darcangelo was suspected of being under the influence of alcoholic beverages. He was asked, and submitted, to Standardized Field Sobriety Testing. He was then placed under arrest, and transported to the Schuylkill Medical Center-South for a blood test to determine his blood alcohol content.Charges will be filed at District Court 21-3-03 pending the blood test.
