Lansford property owners will see their borough tax bills stay the same this year.

Council at a special meeting Monday adopted a 2014 budget that keeps the property tax rate the same, at 32.91 mills.Each mill generates about $34,000.That means the owner of a property assessed for taxes at $25,000 will pay $822.75 in 2014 borough property tax, the same as the 2013 bill.President Rosemary Cannon cast the sole opposing vote. Councilman Andrew Snyder resigned in November; Councilwoman Mary Soberick was absent."I was looking for a little bit of an increase (to hire an additional policeofficer). It was veryminimal," Cannon said in a telephone interview early Thursday.She also says the borough needs another borough worker.Council may reopen the budget this month.The budget calls for revenues of $1,487,958 and expenses of $1,462,518.The spending plan breaks down to $192,200 for general government expenses, including $40,000 for the secretary-treasurer salary; $30,000 for the tax collector's salary; $30,000 for the assistant secretary's salary; $20,000 for engineering; and $6,300 for council's stipends.Another $16,400 is budgeted for building upkeep and heat; $18,500 for fire protection; $4,400 for ambulance service; $15,600 for code enforcement; $22,750 for zoning services; $29,608 for public safety; $158,700 for public works; and $17,900 for municipal administration.The $479,410 police department budget includes $62,000 for the chief's salary; $52,000 for the sergeant; $153,000 for patrolmen; and $60,000 for part-time patrolmen.The millage is divvied up into 26.32 mills for the general fund; 1.4 mills for debt; 0.61 mills for parks and recreation; 1.20 mills for fire protection; 2.78 mills for lighting; 0.1 mill for the Panther Valley Public Library; and 0.50 mill for the pension fund.
