Carbon Career Academy unveils DUI trailer

Carbon and Schuylkill's DUI Task Forces will have a little easier time setting up DUI checkpoints thanks to 50 area middle school students.

On Thursday, the Carbon County SHINE Career Academy, a program administered through a partnership between Lehigh Carbon Community College and Carbon Career & Technical Institute, unveiled its latest project -- a 24-foot DUI trailer, outfitted with amenities police need during checkpoints, including an office area, storage and electrical outlets.The event was held at Kovatch Mobile Equipment Corporation in Nesquehoning, who partnered with the academy for the project.Jeanne Miller, director of the SHINE program, welcomed everyone and thanked local and state legislators, Kovatch officials, LCCC and area businesses for their support of the project and of the SHINE initiative.She spoke about the importance of the program and how it teaches the middle school children about careers of the future, while helping with academics.For a complete story of the unveiling, grab a copy of Friday's TIMES NEWS.
