Truck hits Northwestern school bus; students not injured

Editor's note: This story has been updated to reflect correct information.

A Northwestern Lehigh School District bus, carrying 22 elementary students, was hit by anoher vehicle on an icy Route 143 at Mosserville Road, in Lynn Township, Lehigh County, on Wednesday. None of the students were injured.

State police at Fogelsville sais Harol Greiss, 62, of New Tripoli, was driving a 1982 Chevrolet three-quarter ton pickup truck when he lost control on icy roads. He spun into the path of a 2008 Thomas S bus driven by Kim Borgman, 59, of New Tripoli.

The crash happened at 8:51 a.m. during a period of freezing rain and the road was extremely treacherous, police said.

Troopers said Greiss attempted to avoid a collision by steering his truck to the left but could not. At impact the left front of the truck struck the right front of the bus. Both vehicles came to rest blocking the road.

Greiss and Borgman were not injured. Both were wearing seatbelts.

Troopers said another bus was summoned to the scene to transport the students to school.

Damages were light to the bus, but it had to be towed from the scene.

Assisting troopers at the scene were volunteers from the New Tripoli Fire Company.
