League playoffs are set

It's that time of year again, it's time for some postseason basketball.

The district playoffs are still a week away, but the chance for teams who performed well within their league, to improve their district ranking and earn league bragging rights is just around the corner. Four TIMES NEWS area teams have earned the right to compete in their league playoffs this week.The Lehighton boys and Pleasant Valley girls will be competing in the Mountain Valley Conference playoffs. The Northwestern girls will be playing in the Colonial League playoffs and the Marian girls will also be in action in the Schuylkill League playoffs.Lehighton (13-9, 5-7 MVC) will be making its first appearance in the MVC playoffs since they joined the league. Ironically, it's the last season for the MVC as Lehighton will be moving to the Schuylkill League next season and the rest of the MVC schools will be joining the Lehigh Valley Conference.The No. 4 seed Lehighton will face No. 1 seed Pocono Mountain West on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at Pocono Mountain West High School.The Pleasant Valley girls basketball team has been a constant participant in the MVC playoffs over the years and this season is no different. The No. 3 seed Lady Bears (13-7, 8-4 MVC) will face No. 2 seed Pocono Mountain East at 6 p.m. at Pocono Mountain West High School.The MVC final round will be held on Friday with a time and date to be determined.The Northwestern girls had another successful Colonial League regular season in 2013-14. The No. 1 seed Lady Tigers (21-1, 15-1 CL) will be taking on No. 4 seed Bangor on 20 minutes after the first game of the night, which is at 6 p.m. The Colonial League playoffs will begin on Tuesday at Catasauqua High School.The Colonial League girl's final will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday at Freedom High School.The Marian girls basketball squad showed once again why its one of the premier basketball programs in the Schuylkill League. The Division 3 Champion Fillies (20-1, 12-1 SL) will face Division 1 Champion North Schuylkill at Martz Hall in Pottsville on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.The Schuylkill League girl's championship game will be held on Friday at 6 p.m at Martz Hall in Pottsville.
