Ontelaunee Park has long been closed.Penn's Peak in Jim Thorpe has certainly picked up the slack.The schedule for the forthcoming year looks as ambitious as ever. While the calendar is far from complete, the venue has already signed such acts as Heart, country greats Gary Allen and Vince Gill, Dr. Hook, REO Speedwagon, and Queensryche.Penn's Peak doesn't take a winter break.Performing tonight is a band which should make you think spring: Changes in Latitudes.Changes in Latitudes is America's premier Jimmy Buffet tribute show. Assuredly you'll hear such songs as "Margaritaville," "Come Monday," and "Five O'clock Somewhere."If you like oldies you'll be interested in the Valentine's Dinner Dance, featuring the band Remember When.Remember When is a veteran band that plays songs from the 50s to the 90s. You'll probably hear hits of the Beach Boys, the Four Seasons, and anything from do wop to soul.Coming to Penn's Peak on Feb. 21 is the incomparable Vince Gill, who has had such country megahits as "I Still Believe In You," "When I Call Your Name," and "One More Last Chance."Gill has recorded more than 20 studio albums, charted over 40 singles on the U.S. Billboard charts as Hot Country Songs, and has sold more than 24 million albums.[citation needed] He has been honored by the Country Music Association with 18 CMA Awards, including two Entertainer of the Year awards and five Male Vocalist Awards. Gill has also earned 20 Grammy Awards, more than any other male Country music artist. In 2007, Gill was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.Among the performers making their debuts at the Peak this year are Rhonda Vincent and Dr. Hook.Vincent - the fiery vocalist, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter dubbed "the new queen of bluegrass" by the Wall Street Journal - just released her new two-disc album Only Me on January 28. The LP features both bluegrass and traditional country songs. It is being heralded as some of her best work in her career, during which she has won Grammy Awards and many other honors.She's coming to Penn's Peak on March 22.Dr. Hook might be best known for the song "The Cover of the Rolling Stone" although some might argue that "Sylvia's Mother" and "When You're in Love With a Beautiful Woman" are their favorites.This concert will be staged on April 11.Also making their maiden entry on the Penn's Peak stage are Fitz and the Tantrums on May 9 and Pable Cruise on June 6.It's urged that you purchase your tickets early for events to get the best seats.Another reason is because sometimes the shows get sold-out.
