Heroin, opioid hearing scheduled

In an effort to gather information about the newest drug concerns and prevention methods in Schuylkill County, the Schuylkill County delegation will host an informational hearing about heroin and opioid addiction. Eight representatives from related agencies and groups will testify at this hearing, which is open to the public, however only the testifiers on the agenda will speak.

It will be held from 9:30 a.m.-12 p.m. on Tuesday at Penn State Schuylkill campus, 200 University Drive, Schuylkill Haven, Room C-100 in the classroom building, which is the third building on the left.Rep. Jerry Knowles, R-Berks/Schuylkill, Sen. Dave Argall, R-29, Rep. Mike Tobash, R-Schuylkill/Berks, and Rep. Neal Goodman, D-Schuylkill, are holding the hearing. Testifiers include Gary Tennis, secretary, Pennsylvania Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs; Michael W. Ogden, program director, The Bridge, Philadelphia; Bob Carl, executive director, Schuylkill Chamber of Commerce; William Rowan, Schuylkill Medical Center Drug and Alcohol program director; Christine Holman, Schuylkill County district attorney; James Reily, Schuylkill County magisterial district justice; Rick Weaver, Borough of Tamaqua chief of police; and other state and local officials.
