The Eldred Township supervisors held a Blue Ridge Cable franchise hearing before the regular supervisors' meeting. The last term was approved in 1999 for 15 years at a 2 percent franchise fee for cable television service. The new agreement is for five years, remaining at 2 percent. Township solicitor Michael Kaspszyk said there should be no dramatic impact on residents and if there was any change, it would be seen in the October bill. If there is, the supervisors can revisit this. During the regular meeting, it was approved 3-0.

In other business:• The board received three bids to inspect the seven bridges in Eldred Township. It approved, 3-0, to award the bid to the township's engineer, Hanover Engineers, at $3,000. It was also the lowest bid they received.• Ellerslie Helm, the township's zoning officer, reported the township issued six permits and had five complaints.• Keith Kuehner, township roadmaster, said the paving has been completed on Upper 57 Road.• He reported that the recycling has been bigger than ever. The township will continue to accept recyclables (anything that plugs in) and the hours are 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. It will continue until the end of October.Supervisor vice chairman Mary Anne Clausen inquired about the proposed zoning ordinances amendments that have been in discussion for the last three years.Some Eldred residents have asked to see some of the uses removed from the list.Supervisor/secretary Sharon Solt said there will be a meeting in Eldred with the Planning Commission, the supervisors, Carson Helfrich, community planning and possibly Christine Meinhart Fritz, acting director of Monroe County Planning Commission.
