Effort man faces cocaine charges

A Brodheadsville man faces charges of possessing and distributing crack cocaine, according to the U.S. Attorney’s office.

Jose Hernandez-Tirado, 34, faces up to 20 years in prison and $1 million in fines.

Police said Hernandez-Tirado distributed the cocaine in 2013.

Charges, filed Wednesday in U.S. Middle District Court in Scranton, came after an investigation by Drug Enforcement Administration special agents, Homeland Security investigators, Pennsylvania State Police, the Bureau of Narcotics Investigations and Berks County detectives.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Francis P. Sempa is prosecuting the case.
