JT visitors center opens Thursday

Visitors to Jim Thorpe will be greeted by an updated visitors center.

The grand reopening of the center, located in the Old Mauch Chunk Train Station in Jim Thorpe, is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. Thursday.The center recently got a much-needed facelift, including painting, floor refinishing and upgrades.Carbon County Commissioner Thomas J. Gerhard said the county, who owns the building, is happy with the renovations."It was long overdue," he said. "We're very pleased with the work."He noted that in addition to the work at the station, the county is moving forward with sprucing up the Josiah White Park, located in front of the train station, to make the area an inviting place for visitors and locals.The visitors center is operated by the Pocono Mountain Visitors Bureau.
