A Tamaqua businessman who reaches into all corners of his community to offer help will be thanked and honored.

The Tamaqua Area Chamber of Commerce announced Tuesday that Thomas Banditelli Sr. will receive the 51st Joseph M. Plasko Citizenship Award. The award will be presented at the 64th Annual Tamaqua Area Community Dinner on Wednesday, April 23, at the Hometown Fire Company.Banditelli owns Tom's Auto and Marine, 250 S. Greenwood St. The firm specializes in auto repairs and painting, along with sporting equipment.But folks in Tamaqua say Banditelli also serves as Mr. Fix-It for his community, as well, and can be counted on to step forward to make a difference.For instance, back in 2000 when the community was uncertain about the future of the Owl Creek Reservoir area, Banditelli emerged in leadership to help launch programs and activities to preserve the dams and establish the area as a valuable recreation venue."He always has the time to share his knowledge of fishing and the outdoors to youth of the area," said Linda Yulanavage, Chamber executive director.He serves as volunteer chairman of the Owl Creek Reservoir Commission which "provides our community a beautiful green space where people of all ages can enjoy the outdoors, creating a place where everyone can hike, bike, fish or simply take a walk in the great outdoors," said Yulanavage.The dinner is open to the public.
