Firefighters from numerous Schuylkill County communities were dispatched to 2 Maple Ave. in Barnesville around 1 a.m. today to battle a dwelling fire.

"The home was fully engulfed when we arrived," said Ryan Township Fire Chief Paul Hillibush, who added that firefighters had the fire under control within five minutes.

In addition to working in close proximity to an outside fuel tank, firefighters had to navigate around numerous yard sale items scattered around the property.

According to posted white yard sale sign, the items appeared to be the remnants of a recent yard sale.

Hillibush ruled the fire suspicious, awaiting an inspection by a state police fire marshal.

Firefighters prevented the fire from spreading to a nearby garage located at 808 Barnesville Drive (SR309).

Responding were firefighters from Ryan Township, Mahanoy City, Shenandoah, Tamaqua, Delano, Quakake, Frackville and Hometown. Also responding were Tamaqua ambulance and rescue and fire police from Mahanoy City, Hometown Fire Company and Delano. Ryan Township Rescue Squad provided EMS and rehab services.

Barnesville Drive (SR309) was closed for the duration of the incident.

The names of the property owners were not known.
