Indians, Bears both post three wins

Lehighton and Pleasant Valley both posted wins in three different sports Thursday.

Both schools gained victories in field hockey and girls soccer with the Indians earning a volleyball win and the Bears coming out on top in boys soccer action.FIELD HOCKEYPleasant Valley-PM WestMelissa Russo's hat trick sparked Pleasant Valley to a 7-0 Mountain Valley Conference victory over Pocono Mountain West.The Bears' Johnny Schmidt added two goals, while Abby Roselli and Brianna Frable had one each.Palmerton-Pen ArgylPen Argyl used four goals in the second half to run away with a 5-0 Colonial League win over visiting Palmerton.Lacey Hempeler and Dana Evans both scored two goals to lead the Green Knights while Sara Cinelli added the lone first half score.Addison Lesher finished with 11 saves for the Bombers.ES South-LehightonLightning halted play but Lehighton was still able to record a 3-1 Mountain Valley Conference win over East Stroudsburg South.The Indians' Riley Durishin opened the scoring off an Amy Smith assist and was followed by a Samantha Shanton unassisted score. Jaclyn Valasek also had a good outing with 10 kills and five digs.The Tamaqua JV team also posted a win.Shenandoah Valley-WeatherlyShenandoah Valley dropped the first game but rebounded for a 22-25, 25-12, 25-21, 25-16 win over Weatherly.The Wreckers' Kirsten Ursta had two aces, five digs and five kills, and Shannon Sarosky had two aces, four digs, eight assists and three kills. McKenzie Weidensaul hit Shawn Cope with one conversion pass and then connected with Christman for another.Troxell ran for the other Indian conversion. In addition to her two conversion passes, Weidensaul also recovered a fumble.Lehighton is now 2-0. Tamaqua falls to 0-2.
