This weekend's Walnutport Canal Festival figures to be easy as one, two, three.

As in one incredible weekend, two exciting days, and three fun-filled events, according to Greg Soltis, an event organizer.The 33rd annual festival will kick off Saturday with the always popular Towpath Trot 6K Run, which starts at 9:30 a.m. Registration is at the pavilion at 8 a.m. An awards ceremony will follow the run.Then, from 4-5:30 p.m., the Walnutport Canal Feasti-val will be held. The menu includes baked chicken or pulled pork with baked potato and coleslaw. The kids menu will be a hot dog with baked potato and applesauce. Animals such as an Alpaca; and birds of prey from the Lehigh Valley Zoo will also be on hand.The Lehigh Valley Horse Counsel, Delaware River Stocking Association and Lehigh River Stocking Association will be there as well.The main event will come in the form of the canal festival itself, which will run from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday. There is no admission charge, and free parking.There will be free musical entertainment provided by Big Valley Blue Grass; Matthew Dodd, who will perform canal songs; juggler and magician Al Grout; local poet Paul Martin; and Jolly Holly the Clown.New attractions on Sunday include Potter, with Steve Horst; Panning for Gold, with Laurie Beers; Forester, with Timothy Latz; and basket weaving, with Kim Borgman.There will be arts and crafts, pumpkin paintings, a casting contest, pick a pop, the candy wheel, face painting mining for gold and a potter. Also, E J the Snake man will be returning again this year.Soltis said the purpose of the event is "To raise awareness for keeping America beautiful.""We're trying to save the canal; it's not in the best of shape with all the years of wear and tear on it," Soltis said. "We're happy that the people come out, and not only enjoy themselves, but to educate themselves as well."All proceeds from the event will benefit the Walnutport Canal Association.For the safety of festival participants and visitors, no unauthorized vehicles, bicycles, skateboards or in-line skates will be permitted on festival grounds.
