Touchdowns come in many forms and in the Lehighton-William Allen Mountain Valley Conference football game, the fans on hand saw nearly all of them, as a rush, a pass reception, a punt return and a fumble return yielded the 55 points put up by the Indians, as they routed the Canaries, 55-8.

In order for that to happen, every player on the field needs to be focused on their job at hand, and Lehighton head coach Tom McCarroll admitted to things working out in that fashion on numerous plays throughout the game."If you look at tonight, we had so many guys come up big for us and it really was a total team effort," he admitted. "From the offense and defense down to the special teams, we had so many guys come up big and make huge plays on the field."In the first half, the Tribe put up 48 points, while Allen managed a first quarter score and a two-point conversion, making the score 48-8 at the break, which also instilled the mercy rule for the remainder of the game.Forcing turnovers and hitting hard, it was Lehighton's defense that may have come up the biggest and made the hugest plays in determining the game's outcome."We just can't have the turnovers that we had," Allen head coach, George Clay mentioned afterward. "I think we had five or six in the game, on our side of the field and we can't have that because they are a good team. We can't give them a short field for the whole game or they're going to do what they did and capitalize."On their first possession, Tyler Cann connected with Tyler Crum for a 46-yard score, and two consecutive fumbles later, Cann scooped up the loose ball and raced in from the 18 for a 13-0 lead. Gavin Zehner recovered the following kickoff and Wyatt Clements took the first snap in from the 36 to paydirt. That made the score 19-0 with 6:26 left in the first frame.Allen showed their mettle by putting together a nice drive, going 60 yards in seven plays for a Gabe Otero 1-yard run, and a two-point run by Charlie Muniz, making it 19-8."To be totally honest, this Allen team made me nervous," Carroll stated. "They have a bunch of guys that are capable of making big plays and I knew that we would have to play well in order to do what we did."Cann scored on a six-yard run on the Tribe's next drive to end the first quarter with his team taking a 27-8 lead, and the rout was on.In the second, the winners began to reel off a string of 28 unanswered points to win, going away. Near the end of the second, the Indians showed why they are so dangerous.Nate Newton made two brilliant catches on a drive that deservedly-so ended with his one-yard sprint for a TD, ballooning the lead to 34-8.Moving ahead to under a minute remaining before the half, an Allen stalled drive brought on the punting team that saw Tom Ruzicka race his way in from the 35 for a 41-8 lead. Kris Knappenberger then followed by recovering a kickoff on the Canary 30, and eventually, Clements pounded in from the one for the intermission total of 48-8.With the clock constantly running in the second half, and the benches emptied, both teams saw limited possession time, before the Indians tacked on one more score. Tyler Crum scored his second score on the night, as he broke a tackle and was off to the races for a 67-yard touchdown to finish the outpouring of points.With an up-and-down season going on for Lehighton, they seem to be at the right spot in terms of momentum. Next week, they will take on East Stroudsburg South in a huge match-up for the league."We try to take one week at a time and not worry about the opponent," McCarroll stated. "We try to have the players just focus on how well we prepare each week. Hopefully, we can take the momentum from this game, and take a positive outlook into next week."
