Patients who need to utilize the Palmerton Community Ambulance Association will be riding in style.
That's because the organization now has four 2013 Mercedes Sprinter ambulances to add to its fleet of vehicles.
Three of the four ambulances arrived last week, with the fourth expected to be on the way by the end of this week, according to Jeanie Solarczyk, president of the PCAA.
Solarczyk said the ambulances came courtesy of the will left behind by former borough resident Lucy Behler, who passed away over a year ago.
"She left us, and a couple of other organizations, in her will," Solarczyk said. "Through the grace of God, that's how we got them."
Solarczyk said the new ambulances will enable the PCAA to sell four older ones, and keep two others in stock.
"We're grateful," she said. "We haven't hand a brand new one since 1996."
Solarczyk said the ambulances will be lettered by Jet Signs of Palmerton, which has done lettering and design for years on the vehicles.
"With new trucks, you just don't have to worry so much about them breaking down, and the cost of repairs," she said. "It's like getting that big Christmas present you wanted as a kid."
