A crash in Jim Thorpe last July 3 has led to the filing of driving under the influence (DUI) and other charges.
Borough police said officers responded to a reported crash about 9 p.m. in front of 611 Onoko Lane. Upon arrival officers were informed a 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier failed to yield to a 2006 Ford Taurus when entering the intersection of Onoko Lane and Woodside Drive. The Chevrolet owner, Brad A. Petritsch, of Mahanoy City, stated he was the driver. The driver of the Ford, Emily Anne Krajcirik, said the Chevrolet had run a stop sign.
A passenger in the car with Petritsch, Briana McHale, 19, of 180 Pine Drive, Jim Thorpe, was questioned. She denied driving the Chevrolet stating she had no license.
Through the course of the investigation police determined that McHale was the driver. After further questioning Petritsch admitted letting McHale drive stating she was preparing to take her driver's test. McHale also admitted driving the car.
As a result she was placed under arrest and requested to take a blood test, which she refused. McHale has been charged with DUI, minor prohibited from operating with any aclohol in the system, purchase, consumption, possession or transportation of liquor or malt or brewed beverage, false reports, drivers required to be licensed, and stop signs and yield signs.
