Eleven defendants pleaded guilty to criminal charges in Schuylkill County court and were sentenced as follows.

Judge John E. Domalakes sentenced the following:

Jason Shawn Layton, 34, Ringtown, pleaded to driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol and was sentenced to serve 30 days in the county prison followed by four years and 11 months in the Intermediate Punishment Program (IPP), fined $1,500, pay $300 to Substance Abuse Education (SAE) fund, $100 to Catastrophe fund, $60 to Schuylkill Medical Center (SMC), perform 20 hours community service, driver's license suspended 18 months and when restored shall install an ignition interlock device on his car for 12 months. The prison sentence begins Friday, Oct. 11 at 5 p.m. and he is eligible for the work release program. Layton was cited by Trooper Joseph Aponick when stopped on Brandonville Road (SR924) in Union Township.

Karl Kenneth Kimmel, 34, Pine Grove, pleaded to DUI of alcohol, serve 30 days in the county prison beginning Monday, Oct. 7 at 9 a.m., followed by four years and 11 months in the IPP, fined $1,500, pay $100 to SAE fund, $100 to Catastrophe fund, complete safety school, perform 20 hours community service, driver's license suspended 18 months and when restored install an ignition interlock device on car for 12 months. Kimmel was cited by Trooper Robert Oakley when stopped on Suedberg Road in Pine Grove Township.

Brian Thomas Holmes, Locustdale, pleaded to DUI of alcohol and was sentenced to serve 10 days in the county prison but is granted immediate parole to begin a sentence of five months and 20 days in the IPP, fined $750, pay $100 to SAE fund, $100 to Catastrophe fund, $60 to SMC, attend safety school, perform 12 hours community service, driver's license suspended 12 months and when restored shall install ignition interlock device on car for 12 months. Holmes was cited by Ashland Patrolman Kyule Schauer.

Joshua W. Hoppes, 25, Tower City, pleaded to DUI of alcohol and was sentenced to spend 10 days in the county prison but was granted immediate parole to begin a five months 20 days in the IPP, fined $750, pay $100 to SAE fund, $100 to Catastrophe fund, $60 to SMC, attend safety school, complete outpatient counseling, perform 20 hours community service, and driver's license suspended 12 months and when restored to have ignition interlock device installed on vehicle for 12 months. Hoppes was cited by Pine Grove Cpl. Christopher Cruz.

Peter Andrew Howard, Girardville, pleaded nollo contendre (no defense) to charges of endangering welfare of children, simple assault, and recklessly endangering another person and the court deferred sentence until Tuesday, Nov. 19. Howard was cited by Trooper John Powis and charged with bruising the face of a two-months-old child.

Justin M. Albertini, 25, Pottsville, pleaded to DUI of drugs and was placed in the IPP for six months, fined $1,000, pay $100 to SAE fund, $50 to Catastrophe fund, $180 to SMC, complete safety school and outpatient treatment, perform 10 hours community service, and driver's license suspended 12 months. He was cited by Trooper Alyssa J. Becker on SR61 in Saint Clair.

Jackie L. Bensinger, 50, Klingerstown, pleaded guilty to DUI of alcohol and was placed for six months in the IPP, fined $1,000, pay $300 to SAE fund, $50 to Catastrophe fund, $60 to SMC, perform 10 hours community service, and driver's license suspended 12 months. Bensinger was cited by Hegins Township Patrolman Troy W. Maurer, on Deep Creek Road.

Sheldon James Caster, 28, Lykens, formerly of Pine Grove Township, pleaded to DUI of drugs and was sentenced to serve 30 days in the county prison followed by four years and 11 months in the IPP, fined $1,500, pay $100 to SAE fund, $100 to Catastrophe fund, $460 to SMC, attend safety school and complete outpatient counseling, perform 20 hours community service, driver's license suspended 18 months and when restored install an ignition interlock on his car for 12 months. Caster was cited by Trooper Mark F. Baron on Sweet Arrow Lake Road in Washington Township.

Jeffrey James Spare, 37, Hazle Township, pleaded to charges of aggravated assault, being involved in accident on West Penn Pike, West Penn Township, causing injuries and driving while his license was suspended. The court deferred sentencing to Tuesday, Nov. 19. Spare was cited by Patrolman Corey L. Frey.

Judge Jacqueline Russell accepted the plea of Rene Torris, 309, of 234 Ridge Avenue, Allentown, and on the charge of DUI of alcohol and sentenced Torris to serve imprisonment for 10 days to two years in the county prison, fined $500, pay $100 to SAE fund, $50 to CJEA fund, $200 to Catastrophe fund, attend safety school, complete outpatient counseling, perform 20 hours community service, and driver's license suspended 12 months.

On a summary charge of driving without a license was fined $200 and received a concurrent jail sentence of 15 days to six months. Torris was cited by McAdoo Patrolman Steven Homanko.

Judge Cyrus Palmer Dolbin accepted the plea of Joseph David Zukosky, 52, Pottsville, and sentenced him on a charge of possession of a controlled substance to serve three to six months in the county prison, pay $100 to SAE fund, $50 to CJEA, and make restitution of $113 to Bethlehem Crime Lab. The sentence is to begin Friday, Oct. 11. Zukosky was cited by Pottsville Patrolman Joseph R. Welsh.

Each defendant sentenced must also pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
