Following a few months of delays, Walker Township supervisors approved submission of their joint West Penn/Walker Act 537, sewage facilities plan, to the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) during Thursday night's township meeting.

On hand during the meeting were supervisors David Price, Bill McMullen, Craig Wagner, solicitor Mike S. Greek Esq., road department supervisor Chad Felty and others.During the meeting, Walker Township supervisors said that they met with West Penn Township supervisors recently and agreed on the plan. In 1966, Act 537 was enacted to correct existing sewage disposal problems and prevent future problems. Local municipalities are largely responsible for administering the act.Supervisors added that future actions now remain in the hands of DEP, as both township will have to wait for DEP's approval before starting work.Approval of September's meeting minutes was tabled to next month for corrections.Township supervisors advertised that they will have a budget and general purpose meeting on Ot. 26 at 9 a.m.Officer In Charge Todd Woodward, who wasn't present during the meeting, reported that they had 5 traffic stops, 1 trespass complaint, 1 motor vehicle accident, 1 littering complaint, 1 hitchhiking offense, 2 harrassment reports and other calls during the month.Prior to the township meeting, a hearing was held to disuss a mining company's request of rezoning 62 acres of property from enhanced agricultural preserve to general industrial.The property is located east of the Mountain Road entrance to the R.E. Pierson Construction Company's quarry, near the Blythe Township line.The company made the request as part of a new road they wanted to build on the property. After a 30-minute discussion, all three township supervisors voted against the rezoning request.
