Jim Thorpe Community Watch recognizes members; plans family events

Members of the Jim Thorpe Community Watch have been recognized for their hard work in the community.

Community Watch Coordinator, Jamie Solomon, presented the awards to the recognized individuals.Solomon recognized: Sara Solt, Gary Solt, Phyllis Lienhard, Bill Solomon, Keith Frankenfield, Arlene Domborsky, Elaine Turner, and Emma Marzen.Solomon wished to thank the community watch, Mayor Michael Sofranko, Police Chief Joseph Schatz, and the Jim Thorpe Police Department for all of their hard work.Sofranko and Schatz also wished to thank everyone for their support and work with the community watch.In other news, the community watch has been working to bring fun, family events to Memorial Park and wants to have family events in the park as a way to give back to the community.This past fall, the community watch hosted Halloween in the Park. This was the second year the group hosted the event in Memorial Park.There were hay rides, games, coloring, crafts, face painting, pumpkin painting, and refreshments.The community watch also provides information and pamphlets about issues pertaining to crime and drug prevention."The community watch works hard as extra eyes and ears for the community," said Solomon."We wanted to celebrate our community by having something for the kids and families in the park."Solomon also wished to thank the volunteers who helped at the event: Boy Scout Troop 555, Jim Thorpe High School Tennis team, members of the community watch, and members of the Jim Thorpe Police Department.In December, the Jim Thorpe Community Watch will be hosting a Winter Wonderland in the Park from 6-8 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 14 at Memorial Park.There will be crafts, music, refreshments, tree lighting, and a visit from Santa Clause.
