A new family practice physician's office in Palmerton has opened in style.

Blue Mountain Family Medicine, located at 555 Delaware Ave., Suite 1, greeted visitors on Thursday with an open house/health fair.Those who attended had the opportunity to meet Blue Mountain Health System's new family practice physician, Dr. Syed Zia, MD.Zia said his practice will treat patients of all ages for acute care, complex physical issues, and behavioral issues."It's a nice, pretty town," Zia said. "They have a need for a primary care physician."The health fair gave out free screenings for body fat analysis, pulse oximetry, and depression screening, as well as free education classes centered on diabetes, obesity, sleep disorders, wound care, adult day care, and pediatric exam cards.Dave Van Housen, of Palmerton, made it a point to get a blood pressure screening."I had high blood pressure yesterday," Van Housen said. "I wanted to have her check to see me."Next door, Denny and Ann Marie Haydt, of Palmerton, could be seen receiving health tips.Denny Haydt said he was glad he and his wife came out to the health fair because it had a "lot of information."There were also raffles to win a boys and girls bicycle, as well as some gift cards. Free coloring books and crayons were given out to all children who attended.Blue Mountain Family Medicine will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, as well as evening and Saturday appointments.To schedule an appointment, call 610-826-5110.
