Lehighton Boy Scout Troop 82 and Cub Pack 82; Cub Pack 145, Mahoning Township; and Boy Scout Troop 187, Franklin Township; collected more than 4,200 pounds of food on this past weekend to feed the needy at the Trinity Food Pantry.

Scouting for Food is the largest one-day food drive in the Boy Scouts of America. Started in 1985 in the St. Louis area, Scouting for Food has expanded to other councils across the country. Judy Wingert, SFF coordinator of Boy Scout Troop 82, said the troop collected 4,290 pounds of food on Saturday.

The Lehighton food pantry serves 450 families every month in the Lehighton area.

Scouting For Food is a two-week process. The first week, door hangers were distributed and the second week the scouts go back to collect the items on doorsteps.

The filled bags were brought back to be weighed and sorted by Boy Scout Troop 82 and the volunteers of Trinity Church.

Scouting for Food is a nationwide event for scouting. This event helps to prevent hunger in the local community.
