Dream Come True, Blue Ridge Chapter, will hold its annual telethon from 5 to 9 p.m., Sunday at Penn's Peak, Jim Thorpe. The telethon will be aired live on Blue Ridge Communications TV-13 and Service Electric, channel 90 in the Tamaqua area.

Hosts for the evening will be Nick Hawkey, George Roberts, Dr. Edward Miller and Kristal Nemeroff.Funds raised at the telethon will be used to help the volunteer organization fulfill dreams for seriously, chronically and terminally ill children in Carbon County and surrounding communities.The lineup of entertainment includes Tommy Zito (The Piano Man), who will entertain with his comic personality, impersonations and his never ending repertoire of music. There will also be performances by Blue Mountain Community Church, Angela Nardini, Dance With Kim Studio, Liza Durgala, Main Street Cruisers with Lenny Longo, Beth Miller Turner, Nevada's Loft with Donna Parsons, Pat MGeehan and son; Jean Andrews and American Dream, Erin Kelly and Lynn Dehaven, Kristal Nemeroff, Leaders of the Press and Arthur Terembula.Several children who have had dreams fulfilled will also be on hand to talk about their dream.Eileen Thompson, president of the Dream Come True, Blue Ridge Chapter and telethon chairwoman, said, "Our dedicated volunteers have been busy. We completed five dreams so far this year, with six dreams already approved for completion next year and three children in various stages of paperwork required before dream approval. We are proud to have five children, who have had dreams fulfilled, taking advantage of our Scholarship Program for four years at an accredited school.Two children have also completed the scholarship program.Eligible scholarship recipients receive $1,000 a semester for a total of four years at an accredited school for a maximum of $8,000.Thompson added that Dream Come True-Blue Ridge Chapter also has a funeral benefit which has helped to pay funeral expenses for three children since this chapter's inception."Our chapter also provides a holiday party and a summer outing for our dream recipients. This year we planned a night at the Iron Pigs ballgame with a buffet dinner on the PPL patio," Thompson said.Dream Come True-Blue Ridge Chapter is 100 percent volunteer and all money raised is used for the children. The telethon gives the organization an opportunity to formally thank the many organizations and individuals who support their cause, through monetary donations or by volunteering their time and talents. With the help of donations from the viewing audience, DCT-BRC will be able to continue the mission of providing a dream for every eligible child in their service area.The organization helps children who are seriously, chronically or terminally ill.
