Defendants plead not guilty; request jury trial

Several area residents were among 105 who were arraigned on criminal charges before District Attorney Karen Byrnes Noon Monday morning at the Schuylkill County courthouse and all entered pleas of not guilty and requested trial by jury. They were:

Andrea Scintilla, 32, of 9 James St., McAdoo, charged by McAdoo Patrolman Jeffrey Tanner, with forgery, access device fraud by using credit card unauthorized, identity theft, access fraud by possessing a counterfeit or altered credit card, giving a false written statement to police, and receiving stolen property purchased with credit card belonging to Tyler Zawatsky. According to the police report Scintilla worked at Fegley's Mini Mart and Zawatsky left his credit card in the store after making a purchase.Heather L. Loar, 26, of 137 W. Fell St., Summit Hill, formerly of 300 Ridge St., Coaldale, charged by Coaldale Patrolman Charles Blesse, with hindering apparehension of Brian Kukopwski sought by probation officers who found him hiding under her bed.Ashley Weirich, 19, 104 Schuylkill Avenue, Apt. 7, Elwood Apartments, Tamaqua, charged by Tamaqua Patrolman Karl Harig, with two counts of simple assault on Kathy Gerber and daughter and one count each of recklessly endangering another person, and disorderly conduct by engaging in fighting.Michael Jacob Merenda, 28,of 30 Bruno Avenue, McAdoo, charged by McAdoo Patrolman Steven Homanko, with two counts of simple assault on Tammy Evanko and John Maltesta and one count each of disorderly conduct, criminal mischief by damaging a stainless glass window in the door at 27 E. Monroe St., and public drunkenness.Keith David Yarnell, 24, of 212 Center St., Tamaqua, formerly of 207 W. Bertsch St., Lansford, charged by Schuylkill County Drug Task Force with delivery of a controlled substance to a confidential informant (CI) in the 200 block on Center St., Tamaqua; possession with intent to deliver, and possession of drug paraphernalia.Thomas H. Mace, 65, of 532 Fairview St., Rush Township, charged by Rush Patrolman Ryan Rehatchek, with driving under the influence of alcohol.Francis Michael Betz, 22, of 49 Hunter St., Tamaqua, charged by Coaldale Patrolman Charles Blesse, with DUI of alcohol, careless driving, and failing to wear seat belt.Mark Sagl, 27, of 22 Beach Lane, Nesquehoning, charged by Rush Patrolman Corey Herring, with DUI of drugs, and failing to drive on roadway laned for traffic.Monica A. M. Matula, 32, of 209 W. Abbott St., Lansford, charged by Tamaqua Patrolman Joseph Krebs, with DUI of alcohol, failing to make required method of turning vehicle, and failing to activate turning signals when required.Joseph Connell, 53, of 35 Vine St., Apt. 1, Tamaqua, charged by Rush Patrolman Ryan Rehatchek, with altering license plate, receiving stolen property, driving an unregistered vehicle, and without an official inspection certificate.Ashley Bynon, 19, of 244 Mauch Chunk St., Tamaqua, charged by Tamaqua Patrolman Karl Harig, with two counts of simple assault on Kerry Gerber and daughter near the Zions Church and one count of recklessly endangering another person, and disorderly conduct by engaging in fighting.Melissa Baer, 19, of Shenandoah, formerly of Tamaqua, charged by Tamaqua Patrolman Karl Harig, with two counts of simple assault on Kery Gerber and daughter and one count each of recklessly endangering another person, and disorderly conduct.Samantha Nicole Stutz, 20, of 10 Water St., New Philadelphia, charged by Pottsville Patrolman Michael Stank, with DUI of alcohol and as a minor, involved in accident by striking a parked vehicle, and failing to stop, careless driving, and underage drinking.Michael J. Setlock Jr., 40, of 1 Kaska St., Middleport, charged by Trooper Brian L. Walters with fleeing police, habitual motor code violator, gave false identification to police, driving while license suspended, failing to drive on roadway laned for traffic, careless driving, reckless driving, failing to use multiple beam road lighting equipnment when required. and failing to wear seat belt.Vince Edward Layton, 24, Mahanoy City, charged by Trooper Matthew Barrett with criminal conspiracy, criminal trespass on property of Schuylkill Energy Resources Inc., at Saint Nicholas Cogeneration Plant in Yatesville, Mahanoy Township; theft of equipment and tools valued at $341,000, receiving stolen property, and driving an unregistered vehicle.Nathaniel Clarence Clark, 31, inmate at state correctional facility in Mahanoy Township, charged by Trooper Edward Lizewski with aggravated assault on another prisoner, aggravated assault with deadly weapon, simple assault, simple assault causing bodily injury, and harassment.Juan G. Bermudez-Gil Jr., 28, Whitehall, charged by McAdoo Patrolman Steven Homanko, with carrying a firearm without a license, corruption of minors, reckless driving, careless driving, failing to drive on roadway laned for traffic, two counts of failing to activate turning signals when required, entering a no passing zone, failing to drive at safe speed, and windshiled obstruction.Dina Quinn, 54, Park Place, Mahanoy City, charged by Mahanoy City Cpl. Michael Dissinger, with four counts of possession of a CS and one count each of possession of drug paraphernalia and tampering with or fabricating physical evidence last May 20. Quinn was also charged by Dissinger with two counts of possession, and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia last June 20.Shane D. McCoog, 28, Mahanoy City, charged by Mahanoy Cpl. Michael Dissinger, with possession of a CS, possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.Christopher Snyder, 41, Mahanoy City, charged by Mahanoy City Patrolman Charles Kovalewski, with two counts of terroristic threats against Christina Fisher and Stephen Barrett, of 609 Pine St., and possession of an instrument of crime (knife).Matthew Dewayne Rhodes, 30, Reedy, W. Va., charged by Rush Patrolman Adam Sinton, with possession of a small amount of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving while license suspended, and failing to obey traffic signal on Sunset Avenue, Hometown.Michael Anthony Gulak, 22, Mahanoy City, charged by Mahanoy City Cpl. Michael Dissinger, with possession of drug paraphernalia.
