Blue Mountain Health System will offer a series of training classes on Diabetes Self Management from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on four Tuesdays: On May 28; and on June 4, 11 and 18. The classes will be held in the First Floor Board Room at Gnaden Huetten Memorial Hospital, 211 N. 12th St., Lehighton.

The four-week course will cover meal planning: how to count carbohydrates and plan healthy meals, exercise ideas: tips to keep active and find time to work out, the basics of monitoring: how to check your blood sugar, oral medications and insulin, complications: review ways to prevent neuropathy, eye disease, kidney problems and foot problems, changing behaviors: stress & coping, and resources for people with diabetes. Susan Generose, RD, CDE, LDN will facilitate.

Medicare Part B covers 10 hours of initial group classes for a beneficiary who has been diagnosed with diabetes and/or who has not had formal training in the past. For those with third party or commercial insurances, please consult with your insurance provider for reimbursement details.
