The Coaldale United Veterans Organization will conduct two Memorial Day services on Sunday, May 26. The first service will be held at the Seek Veterans Memorial, on Route 209, at 1 p.m. A second service will be held at the Coaldale Veterans and Women's Memorial, Third and Phillips Streets, at 2:30 p.m.

The featured speaker at both services will be Dale A, Wesner, Captain USMC (Ret.). His talk will emphasize the importance of Memorial Day; and the need to honor the past and current sacrifices of our military in defense of our freedoms.

The Master of Ceremonies will be Stephanie Richards, Commander of Coaldale Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6982. The Rev. Daniel Matthewson, pastor of Saint Mary's Orthodox Church of Coaldale, will give the benediction and the closing prayer. Nicholas Paraschak, Adjutant of VFW post 6982, will read the names of those veterans who have passed away during the past year. Paraschak has been involved in preparing for and conducting Memorial Day ceremonies for the past 67 years. Borough council Chairwoman Susan Solt will offer remarks.

Students from the Panther Valley School District and Our Lady of Angels Catholic Academy will read "Lincoln's Gettysburg Address" and "General Logan's Orders," which established Memorial Day.

The Panther Valley Junior ROTC, under the direction of Sergeant First Class Thomas Jordan (U.S. Army Rangers; Ret.), will provide military honors, and the Honor Rifle Squad. The Cadet corps is under the command of Cadet Battalion Commander Johnson.

The Panther Valley High School band, under the direction of Mark Christ, will provide a medley of patriotic tunes. The flag drill team will accompany the band.

Attendees at the Coaldale service are encouraged to visit the Coaldale Women's Memorial. The Wishing Well has incorporated three black granite panels depicting contributions of Coaldale women and families to our nation and to our community.

The Women' Memorial will be completed by Veterans day 2013 with the addition of a fourth black granite panel and a statue of a granite angel.
