Winifred Emma (Mulhern) Woods, nickname "Winkie," a resident at Heritage Hill Senior Community, celebrated her 90th birthday on April 12.

Born in West Hazleton on April 12, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Winifred and Daniel Mulhern of West Hazleton.She graduated from Weatherly Area High School in 1940. She then attended McCann's School of Business for Stenography and later began working in the Hazleton National Bank building for A. Sterling Learn, CPA. Sterling and Winkie later married in 1945 and were married for 42 years until his death in 1987.She then met and married Walter Woods on Nov. 12, 1994 and is still happily married, both residing at Heritage Hill Senior Community. Before moving to Heritage Hill, the couple traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and abroad.Winkie has three children: Thomas J. Learn of Palmyra, N.Y.; William Learn of LeLand, N.C.; and the late A. Sterling Learn. She has seven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.She was a member of the choir at Our Lady of Lourdes Church (formerly St. Nicholas Church) in Weatherly and a member of a bowling league in Hazleton.
