Spring recess

Pleasant Valley School will dismiss early Wednesday, March 27, at 12:25 p.m. for the spring recess, and is scheduled to resume Tuesday, April 2.

Rotary speaker

Barry Dawson of West End Supporter will be the speaker at the Thursday, March 28, meeting of the West End Rotary Club. The club meets at 7:30 a.m. at the Western Pocono Community Library in Brodheadsville.

Band Parents meet

Pleasant Valley Band Parents are scheduled to meet at 7 p.m., Thursday, April 4, at the high school in Brodheadsville.

Holy Week Services

St. Peter's UMC, Saylorsburg, will hold a Maundy Thursday service at 7 p.m., with Communion.

On Easter Sunday, the church will have an Easter Sunrise service at 6:45 a.m. in the parking lot, followed by breakfast. The regular Easter worship service will be held at 10 a.m.

Zion Lutheran in Brodheadsville will hold Maundy Thursday Services at 7:30 p.m., with the sacrament of Holy Communion and the stripping of the altar.

On Good Friday the worship service at Zion will also be at 7:30 p.m.

And on Easter Sunday, services will be held at 6, 8 and 10 a.m. with Holy Communion.

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church's schedule includes no 8 a.m. or 12:10 p.m. Mass on Holy Thursday, but an 8 a.m. Morning Prayer and a 7 p.m. Mass of the Lord's Supper and a 11 p.m. Night Prayer time.

On Good Friday, March 29, there is no 8 a.m. or 12:10 p.m. Mass but an 8 a.m. Morning Prayer and a 7 p.m. Celebration of the Lord's Passion. The church will hold an Easter Vigil on Saturday at 8 p.m. (No 5 p.m. Mass or confessions) and Mass on Sunday at 8 a.m., 10 a.m. and noon (please note time change), and a Spanish Mass at 1:30 p.m.

Additionally, the church will hold a Basket Blessing at 1 p.m. Saturday and an egg hunt at 2 p.m.

Effort United Methodist will hold a special service on Maundy Thursday, beginning with a shared meal of bread and soup and a service to follow at 7 p.m.

On Good Friday there will be a special service at 7 p.m.

Easter Sunday offers a sunrise service at 7 a.m. and regular services at 8:30 and 11 a.m.

PIC work day

Pride in Chestnuthill (PIC) has set its spring cleanup days. Weather permitting the first clean up will be April 6, beginning at 7 a.m., with the group meeting at the township municipal building, Route 715. The rain date is April 13.

There is no pick-up in rain, snow or temperatures below 45 degrees at 7 a.m. on the day of the event. Participants are to wear brightly colored rugged clothing and footwear.

Children below 13 are not permitted, and those between 13-18 must be accompanied by a parent. PVHS students and their parents who are using community service as their graduation project are welcome.

PIC's next meeting will be at 7 p.m., Thursday, April 11, at the municipal building.

Give and Take Day

Chestnuthill Township will host a free Give and Take Day on Saturday, April 6, at Chestnuthill Township Park on Route 715.

The time for giving is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the time for taking is 1-4 p.m.

Chestnuthill reunion

The Chestnuthill High School Alumni Reunion will be held Saturday, May 4, at the Polk Township Fire Hall in Kresgeville, beginning at 1 p.m.

Reservations are due by April 12.

Officers for this year are Lee Hoffman, president; Marion Sobers, vice president; Gertrude Hennion, secretary; and Geraldine Gasdick, treasurer.
