Tamaqua Area School District retains Kinder

For about 50 years, there's been an employee of the Tamaqua School District named Raymond Kinder. During a meeting Tuesday the district's school board voted to continue that tradition, extending Assistant Superintendent Raymond J. Kinder's existing contract for five more years, effective Feb. 18.

Kinder's career began in Tamaqua when he was hired as a health/physical education teacher in 1994. He became assistant principal of the high school in 1999, high school principal in 2001, and has been assistant superintendent since 2008.His father, Raymond Kinder, who passed away in May 2008, was hired with the district as a math teacher in 1963. His 37 years with the district included working as assistant superintendent from 1978 to 1994, and superintendent from 1994-2000, when he retired.The board also approved several coaches for the 2013-14 school year:Michael Luna, Head Golf CoachJennel Yelito, Head Girls' Tennis CoachStacy Setlock, Head Volleyball CoachLori Mazloom, Assistant Volleyball CoachCourtney McCarroll, Girls Junior Varsity Soccer CoachCasmir Kosciolek, Head Boys Basketball CoachIn addition, Kristen Kistler and Robert Clements were approved as volunteer Girls' Soccer coaches. Stipends for the coaching positions are to be established.The following people were approved to work as substitute teachers: Matthew Fees, Tuscarora; Danielle Mertz, Summit Hill; Ashley Titus, Tamaqua; and Trevor Miller, Lehighton. The board also approved two regular part-time teachers, Jessica Mazaika, McAdoo, and Erin Schmitt, Beaver Meadows.The board appointed Coordinated Health, headquartered in Bethlehem, as the district's athletic trainer for a three-year term beginning July 2013 through June 2016 at a fee schedule of $25,000 per year. The contract includes sports physicals, school physicals and football games coverage at set fees: $8 per athlete for sports physicals, $20 per athlete for make-up physicals, $8 per student for physicals and $100 per game for physician coverage.
