Icy road conditions, which was caused by a sudden snow squall, was blamed for a two vehicle crash that occurred about 5:50 a.m. on Thursday, March 14, along SR61 in Port Clinton, Schuylkill County.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said Michele E. Doyle, 43, of Pottsville, driving a 2000 Chevrolet Trailblazer, was southbound when the snow squall came through the area which caused a bridge to become icy. Doyle lost control of her vehicle which began to spin across the bridge and become hung up on the raised median which separates the two northbound and two southbound lanes.

Brock L. Delong, 24, of Shoemakersville, Berks County, driving a 1990 Dodge Ram truck, was northbound and lost control of his vehicle while crossing the icy bridge. His truck struck the bridge rail and then began to spin northwest and struck the disabled Trailblazer.

Doyle sustained a minor injury and was taken to the Schuylkill Medical Center-S. Jackson St., Pottsville, for treatment. Delong was not injured.

The road was shutdown in both directions for about an hours, troopers added, due to the icy conditions. Troopers also said there were several other crashes in the area due to icy conditions.
