The Walker Township board of supervisors adopted an ordinance it started drafting in December, which defines regulations for the park in Wildcat. The action was taken at last evening's monthly meeting.

The ordinance had been revised from an older one that did not include such things as fire restrictions, prohibited recreational activities, cleanup rules, and smoking and alcohol restrictions.Many people come to the park to picnic and play basketball, but they are now only allowed in the permitted areas. Visitors can also have a fire in designated spots, such as a grill or stove, but smoking is now prohibited in all areas of the park. Violating any the park rules is considered a summary offense, and if convicted, a fine can be issued for no less than $10 to no higher than $300.Township Solicitor Michael S. Greek said the ordinance is generic enough that, although it applies only to the one park, the board could adopt it for other municipal land if it chose.Also at the meeting, Officer Todd Woodward discussed gun use in the township because there had been recent reports of shots being fired. He said guns are to be shot no closer than 150 yards from any building in the township. In the reported case to which he was referring, the person was firing a shotgun and pellets were found in a neighbor's yard.Another recent issue that has been occurring, Woodward said, is calls for suspicious vehicles in the Wildcat development. He said the increase of drug activity is typical when the weather warms up. He said he has made several stops lately, one of which resulted in someone being charged with heroin possession.Next board of supervisors meeting will be Thursday, April 4, at 7:30 p.m. in the municipal building.
