BAMMM Books are magical, magnificent & marvelous; at least according to the teachers and students at the Penn Kidder Campus K-8 School in Albrightsville.

The school holds its BAMMM week every year to coincide with the birthday of Theodore Seuss Geisel, who is better known as Dr. Seuss.The week kicked off with a celebration of Dr. Seuss' 109th birthday. Children in kindergarten through third grade were read to by Thing 1 and Thing 2.Tuesday was Beach Day. Students were encouraged to bring in their favorite book and beach towel. Students were given time throughout the day to read.Wednesday was capped off with a Family Reading Night. Students and their families brought in books to the school for its annual book swap. The high point of the evening was the Brain Show, which is an educational trivia game show. The show was brought to the school courtesy of the PTA.During school hours the game's hostess asks curriculum-based questions to groups of student. In order to win the game the students not only need to know the answers, but are required to work as a group or they lose points.The evening show had questions that were geared toward parents and children, but they too have to work as a team or they are penalized.The Brain Show is a local company based out of Canadensis, Pa. According to game show hostess Arielle Sekula, they have traveled as far as Washington state to perform.Prior to Wednesday evening's performance, Brian Gasper, principal, presented a check for $430 to Barbara Franzosa of the Friends of the Penn Kidder Library Center."The students worked very hard and raised this money to support the new library. In fact, they did so well that they earned to privilege to wear jeans to school tomorrow," said Gasper.Three students were acknowledged for having raised the most money for the library. Lauren Gaudio, Jessica Reichart and Skylar Sanchez, all fifth graders at the Penn-Kidder school, raised $140 for the library.On Thursday, the students were treated to "Sports Day." The students and faculty were encouraged to wear their favorite sports jerseys. The assembly featured student athletes from Jim Thorpe Area Senior High School. The athletes stressed the importance of reading and maintaining good grades in order to be eligible to participate in the school's athletic programs.Also visiting during the assembly was Tux the mascot for the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Penguins and Big Herc, the JTAHS mascot.
