Simon Bandzi Sr., Slatington, received a Pennsylvania House of Representative Citation on Feb. 27 from Julie Harhart (R-Lehigh/Northampton), who sponsored the citation and was signed by Samuel H. Smith, Speaker of the House. It was in recognition of his 90th birthday (Feb. 12) and for his service to his country during World War II. He served under Gen. Patton and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a surgical technician, receiving a number of combat medals and ribbons, including: Certificate of Merit in the European Theater of Operations, United States Army; American Campaign Medal; Army of Occupation Medal; and a Good Conduct Medal. He saw action that included Rhineland, Northern France, the Invasion of Normandy and Ground Combat.
