Mahoning Township police said driving under the influence (DUI) charges are pending as a result of a one-vehicle accident Friday, March 1.

At about 10 a.m. police were dispatched to a single-vehicle accident on SR209 near Spring Street. A blue Jeep Liberty was traveling north when it went off the roadway striking a rock embankment and a tree, police said. The vehicle sustained heavy damage and was not drivable.Police said that at the scene officers found open beer cans inside the car, and on the roadway.The driver of the vehicle, Eugene Blaney Jr., 66, of Kunkletown, was found lying on the shoulder of the road.Blaney was transported by Lehighton ambulance to Lehigh Valley Hospital for treatment of injuries. DUI charges are pending the results of a blood test.
