One northbound lane of Interstate 81 in Delano was closed a couple hours Tuesday evening near mile marker 132 after a wide-load tractor trailer carrying a loaded flatbed trailer crashed into the back of another tractor trailer hauling two truck tractors. A hazardous materials team was also called to the scene.

Firefighters on scene stated the accident resulted in about 150 gallons of diesel fuel leaked from the fuel tank of one of the trucks. Firefighters were seen placing soak barriers around the area. Luckily, the majority of fuel drained to the side of the road instead of both lanes of the northbound traffic.

State Police report that a 2007 International truck tractor, towing a loaded flatbed trailer, was traveling behind a 2013 Freightliner truck tractor towing two other truck tractors when the lead truck slowed for traffic and was struck by the second truck in the rear end. Both trucks ended up about 100 yards from the impact, closing the right-hand lane for about four hours while emergency crews worked to separate the trucks.

The Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) was notified of the spill, troopers said.

The lead truck, the Freightliner, was operated by William Quinley Jr., Jonesville, Va,, while the impacting truck was driven by Jeffery Wood, Bloomfield, Ontario, Canada. No injuries were reported. Also responding were firefighters from Delano, Ryan Township, McAdoo and others.
