Summer programs for children

The Wonderful World of Wildlife summer story hour will run through July 31, at 10 a.m. Children 4 years of age to sixth grade are welcome. There will be stories, crafts and snacks.Sara, one of Therapy Dog International's "Tail Waggin" Tutors, will be at the library on Wednesday afternoons during the summer to listen to beginning readers who wish to read to her for 15 minutes. Call for more information.Growing a Garden of Readers, the library's reading incentive program, returns for children ages 4-12. Stop in the library and sign up. For each book read, the child will receive a raffle ticket for an end-of-the-summer reading raffle.McDonald's is sponsoring its "Readers are Leaders" program. If a child reads 10 books, he or she receives a coupon for a free Happy Meal. For more information, call the library.The library will be hosting three more lectures in their Community Wellness Series: August, "The Importance of Immunizations in Good Health;" October, "You and Your Pharmacist a Partnership for Wellness;" and December, "Influenza Attacking a Serious Issue Head-On." Watch for dates and times for these lectures.Bag Book SaleThe library is having a Bag Book Sale. There are puzzles, audio tapes, VHS movies and books. Whatever fits in a bag is flat nominal charge. The library takes donations of books, but does not take encyclopedias, National Geographic, or Reader's Digest condensed books. Call the library for more information.Community Rewards programThe Pathmark Community Rewards programs allows shoppers to earn 1 percent of the purchase amount for the school or nonprofit organization of his or her choice; in this case, the Slatington Public Library.
