State police at Fern Ridge reported investigating two crashes in Monroe County on Tuesday, June 25.
The first crash occurred about 3:15 a.m. along Interstate 80 in Tobyhanna Township. Troopers said Edwin F. Stout Jr., 36, of Belvidere, N.J., was driving a 2011 Kenworth Prosleeper tractor with trailer westbound when the rig left the road and struck the guide rail. Stout was not injured and damages were termed minor to the truck.
The second crash was reported at 6:15 a.m. along SR715, in Jackson Township. Troopers said Daniel V. Gatto, 21, of Brodheadsville, was driving a 2000 Nissan Altima southbound while David G. Pepe, 58, of Saylorsburg, was driving a 2005 Chevrolet 3500 truck northbound.
Gatto fell asleep with his vehicle crossing into the northbound lane and colliding into the truck, almost head-on, troopers said.
Gatto sustained a minor injury and was treated at the scene by Pocono Central ambulance personnel. Pepe was not injured.
Troopers said both vehicles had to be towed from the scene. Troopers cited Gatto for careless driving.
